Pregnancy Massage


Quick Info:  

During pregnancy a woman's pelvis will rotate anteriorly which pushes the uterus forward against the abdominal wall, which cause increased curvature of the lumbar spine and stretching abdominal muscles(causing separation of the rectus abdominus muscles by 3rd trimester).   This causes her to compensate by leaning backwards with head and neck jutting forward.  This major postural imbalance causes a pregnant woman to suffer from pain in her middle and lower back, hips, legs, neck and shoulders(causing headaches).  

 Pregnancy or prenatal massage that I perform has a huge range of benefits:  1) Eliminates middle and lower back  pain, hip pain, neck and shoulder pain, leg pains and headaches.   2) Reduces edema(fluid retention) and increases blood and lymph circulation(increases blood volume by as much as 30-50%).   3) Reduces blood pressure and reduces varicose vein development.   4) Elevates the production of estrogen and progesterone.   5) Benefits the urinary, respiratory and gastrointestinal systems.   5) Contributes to a shorter and much less painful labour as well as reducing labour complications, interventions and medications.   6) Improves the wellbeing of your infant.  

I find that the side-lying position is the best position for this pregnancy massage(and does not increase uterine pressure), and I am able to apply deep strong massage strokes and pressures to your back, hips, neck and shoulders, and legs to relieve strain and pain.   I am careful not to work certain vital points such as the GB21, L14 and spleen 6 as pressure on these points can trigger uterine contractions.  Also there are certain aromatherapy oils that I will not use during the massage as they are contra-indicated for pregnancy.
